Garbage & Recycling

E-mail recycling@ringwoodnj.net to register yourself or your group! We meet at Borough Hall at 8:30am on Saturday, April 27th for refreshments and area assignments then start at 9:00am.

Interstate Waste is Ringwood's solid waste and recycling contractor. Residential solid waste curbside collection is once a week. Recycling curbside collection is every other week.  Recycling and garbage questions or concerns should be directed to Interstate Waste at (866) 342-5497 or the Ringwood Recycling Department at (973) 475-7179 or email recycling@ringwoodnj.net.

The Borough also owns and operates our own Recycling Center located at the end of Peter's Mine Road (off Margaret King Avenue).  Recycling Center hours are Saturdays and Sundays 9:00 am - 5:00 pm and Wednesday 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm.  See attached list for recyclable items accepted at the Recycling Center.  Christmas trees must be brought to the Recycling Center during the month of January only.

Interstate Waste provides curbside leaf pickup once a week during the months of April, May, October and November.  During these weeks, leaf pickup starts on Monday and continues throughout the week.  A curbside heavy metal pickup service is also available through the Borough by appointment by e-mailing recycling@ringwoodnj.net or call 973-475-7179.  Heavy metal is picked up on Wednesdays. To be on the list for Wednesday must call by Tuesday at 2pm.  You can just leave a message on the garbage & recycling line with your name, phone and the item(s) you need picked up.  No return call is necessary.

Please review the 2024 Garbage & Recycling newsletter and the Curbside Recycling Pick Up 2024 Calendar for more details. They can be found on the right hand side of the page under "Garbage/Recycling Documents".

Curbside leaf collection is once per week in the Spring (April 1 through May 31)

Leaves must be placed at curbside Monday mornings prior to 6:30 am. Leaf pickup will start Monday and continue throughout the week. There is no set day schedule for leaf collection. Leaves must be placed in recyclable, biodegradable brown leaf bags (such as Union Camp, RCI or comparable bag). Bags are available for purchase at Home Depot, Stop & Shop, Sears and similar stores. Leaves may also be placed loose in trash cans provided the cans are no larger than 32 gal and weigh no more than 50 lbs. when filled. It is helpful to label leaf cans. No plastic bags will be accepted at curbside. Curbside leaf collection also includes small brush (plants, shrubs and tree branches). Brush must not exceed four feet in length and two inches in diameter and must be tied and bundled, placed in leaf bags or in cans. Leaves and small brush are accepted throughout the year at the Recycling Center and must be debagged when dumped. NO LOGS OR STUMPS WILL BE ACCEPTED. NO GRASS CLIPPINGS ALLOWED, as per State of NJ mandate. A list of Grass Markets can be found HERE.

Questions about the Curbside Leaf Collection Program should be directed to the Recycling Contractor at (866) 342-5497 or the Ringwood Recycling Department at (973) 475-7179 or recycling@ringwoodnj.net
