What Are the Requirements for a Fire Pit or Outdoor Fireplace?
If the fire pit has legs and is off the ground, a permit is not required.
If the fire pit will be in or on the ground, you are required to first contact the
New Jersey Forest Fire Service at 973-962-0217.
Gas fire pits require a plumbing permit.
If you are going to build a structure, a permit will be required.
If you are installing a patio as part of your project, you do not need a permit but you DO need to submit an application to obtain prior approval. CLICK HERE for link and check off "patio" on the application.
